Pastor Carey G. Anderson

Carey G. Anderson is Senior Pastor at First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) Church in Seattle, Washington.  Pastor Anderson    came to FAME Church in November of 2004 from St. Paul AME Church in Wichita, Kansas where he was pastor for four years.  Prior to that, Pastor Anderson served at Bethel AME Church in Reno, Nevada for 16 years.  Pastor Anderson began his ministry in 1977 at First AME Church in Oakland, California.  He graduated from the California State University in Berkeley, California in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in speech communication.  He continued his education at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1984.  Currently, Pastor Anderson is a Doctoral candidate at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri.  

Pastor Anderson sees his assignment at FAME Church as a holistic ministry — one focusing on the spiritual being as well as the empowerment of people in housing, economic development and education.   “I have a strong passion for the underclass and for social outreach ministries, including prisons and HIV and AIDS,” said Pastor Anderson.  “The richness of diversity in the Pacific Northwest must be accentuated in the outreach of the ministries at First AME Church.”  The First Lady of FAME Church is Phyllis Gearring-Anderson.  She and Pastor Anderson have one son, two daughters and one granddaughter.
